erin. >> we have some debris in bethesda along river road. metro service doesn't pick up until 11:00 a.m. we'll have the latest on that. >> on this memorial day we honor our nation's military members. >> there are several events planned across the d.c. region today. fox5's kristen leone live at arlington national cemetery way closer look. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, maureen and holly. yes, happy memorial day. today is a great way obviously to pay tribute to those fallen military heroes and in a couple of hours, hundreds of volunteers will be coming here with thousands of roses and placing them on the headstones, again, of our fallen military a-beautiful tradition going on since 2011. so that will be taking place between the hours of 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. this morning. so, if you don't have any plans when you wake up and again, you want to pay all right respects to those who have made that ultimate sacrifice for our

is a great way to do so right here at arlington national cemetery. of course, so many roses to hand out here, so that first come first serve on that note. and also the memorial day parade will be taking place today from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. starting on constitution avenue. of course, there's going to be a lot more traffic and heavier congestion than usual, so i do want to kind of go over a couple of those areas for you. so, over on seventh and constitution, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today, that area will be closed as well as other areas around there, other streets because of the memorial day parade as well. and also there will be -- we're told there will be heightened security in that area and for the most part people that will be spoken to... that we have spoken to say that they aren't afraid and were told as well that this would be happening. >> i feel safe 'cause i mean they're there and they're here top protect us

everyone here. >> they have a lot of police presence and most of the people down here are either patriotic or military oriented, something like that, so it's pretty safe. >> reporter: so, again, extra security there, plenty of opportunities to get involved today and of course to pay tribute, pay your respects to our fallen militarily. >> thank you for that. 5:03 is the time. this memorial day several maryland restaurants will honor the fallen. they'll value missing man table set in their dining rooms. the tables include a white tablecloth empty chair black napkin yellow candle and a single rose. >> thousands of motorcycles from around the country rode their bike into d.c. to honor service members killed or missing in action. the rolling thunder r

>> the white house staying quiet when it comes to reports of jared kushner and his contacts with the russian ambassador. kushner allegedly made a proposal to the russian kushner suggested a secret communications channel between the transition team and russia using russian diplomatic facilities to do it. there are also reports kushner failed to disclose phone calls with the ambassador. kushner's attorney says he has "no recollection of the calls as described." some are calling for kushner's security clearance to be suspended. >> we need to get to the bottom of these allegations but i do think there ought to be a review of his security clearance to find out whether he was truthful, whether he was candid. if not there's no way he can maintain that kind of a clearance. >> there are many who question if the claims are valid saying the russians are known to spread false rumors.

preparing its first test to intercept a missile. officials believe north korea is years away from being able to perfect a long range missile but this week the head of the u.s. defense intelligence agency said if no action is taken north korea is on what's being called an inevitable path to obtaining a nuclear arms missile capable of hitting the united states. >> developing this morning, the sheriff's deputy killed in a shooting rampage in mississippi has been identified. 36-year-old william derr was one of eight people killed. police say the shootings began as a domestic dispute. the alleged gunman 35-year-old willie god bolt is in custody. police say he held a 16-year-old boy hostage but released him unharmed. >> the navy trying to figure out why a navy s.e.a.l.'s parachute didn't open during a fleet week demonstration causing him to plunge to his death. the it happened as thousands of spectators were watching in new

of an elite u.s. navy sky diving team called the leapfrogs. when the parachute malfunctioned the navy s.e.a.l. cut his way out and landed in the water. he died at the hospital. >> voters in northern virginia backing a sales tax increase to help fund metro. it will help the agency facing long term financial turmoil. according to a washington post school poll 53 percent of northern have a have as virginians supportit. >> not the best of memorial day weekends weather-wise, mike, but you're saying we might get a little break on this actual holiday. >> today is the best day of the holiday weekend for sure. we get some morning clouds, some showers but by the afternoon we get a little bit more sunshine. you can see the back edge of this system moving through pittsburgh at the moment. i'll paint the line on. once we get that that boundary through here, conditions will be much

over to south korea. their neighbors to the north testing missiles. south korean television claims this is a new anti-craft guided weapon system. they believe kim jong un has ordered the system to be placed without the country after weeks of missile test launches. those weapons are designed to reach the u.s. with a nuke warhead. unclear if north korea has perfected this technology. >> the ban on carrying your laptop on a plane could be expanded to include all international flights to and from the u.s. homeland security chief john kelly said he is considering a broad based ban because terrorists are obsessed with the idea of knocking down a u.s. plane full of american citizens. if this kind of a ban takes effect, it could include everything larger than a cell phone, including tablets. laptops are already banned in airplane cabins from 10 middle

eastern countries. thousands of passengers were stranded at airports. this could end up costing the airline nearly $130 million in lost business compensation or other customer related issues. >> today is the final day on the legislative calendar in texas and lawmakers remain deadlocked over the so-called bathroom bill. if approved it would require transgender people to use the restroom which corresponds with the sex on their birth certificate. if the house and the senate cannot reach an agreement lieutenant governor dan patrick warned he'll try to force a special session. >> a michigan prison guard will that stand trial i the death of an inmate. in 2015, nika edmund killed herself inside a women's prison. the inmate's family claims she yelled for a suicide prevention vest but never got one. they also say guards placed bets on whether she would kill herself. a judge ruled that prison guard diana callahan will stand trial. she already faces charges of involuntary

>> democrats increasing their demands for white house adviser and the president's son-in-law to speak out about allegations he met with russian officials. those meetings were reportedly to discuss setting up a secret channel of communication between president trump's team and officials in moscow. >> the mayor of baltimore says the city will look at removing its confederate monuments. the mayor told the baltimore sun the city is considering auctions off two monuments including a monument of roger tanning who wrote the dred scott supreme court ruling denying african-american citizenship as well as the statue of confederate generals lee and jackson. >> gregg allman has died the organist and singer for the allman brothers band died at his home in georgia over the week. he had been in declining health and canceled tour dates last year for health reasons. back in march he canceled all scheduled performances for the rest of the year. allman was 69 years old. >> a big congratulations to the university of

central portions of maryland this morning. then you can kind of see the next round that's sliding in through the panhandles of maryland and eventually through the panhandle of west virginia as well. once we get this boundary sliding through western pa and west virginia through the air mass will dry out which means less in the way of cloud cover and month are in the way of sunshine as we head into the latter portion of the afternoon. drizzle and showers through the morning hours. cloudy start to the day. we'll get this area low pressure a little farther off shore this afternoon. sunshine will move in, some sun, it will be a mix of clouds and sun but i think a better afternoon than what we had on saturday and sunday. 80's back in the picture. in fact mid 80's around here this afternoon. probably best day of the week for pools. here's your futurecast in case you don't believe me. clouds through the morning hours. we head into the afternoon. there's that last round around 1 o'clock and then after that point we break off into some sunshine and we have a beautiful memorial day coming our way. let's take a look the all right fox5 accuweather 7-day forecast here. we'll get you thr

dcps since the school year began. a new york city high school will not move their prom even though it falls during ramadhan. brooklyn tech high school's prom falls on june 3rd during ramadhan. the observance that muslims are not allowed to eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. officials aren't moving the prom date. instead they'll serve dinner after sunset so all students can eat. and if you have a weak bladder your genes may be to blame. 25 percent of women experience this and it appears to be inherited. the good news, weak bladders could be cured by existing drugs. and finally hockey fans you'll love this because next year, the caps will take on the toronto maple leafs at an outdoor game in annapolis. that game will be played on march third at the navy marine corps memorial stadium. nhl is expected to make an official announcement today so good news there for hockey fans. that will be pretty cool. >> those outdoor games are fun. thanks whiz.

military starting right here at arlington national cemetery. in just a couple of hours, hundreds of volunteers will be placing roses, thousands of roses on the headstones of our fallen service men and women, a beautiful tradition that we do right here in d.c. and again a-way to commemorate and celebrate those who've made that ultimate sacrifice for our country. so, if you want to get involved and haven't made any plans this morning, definitely wake up and come on down and grab, you know, those thousands of roses or grab a couple of those roses, there are only so many out there and, you know, come on down and place them on those graves. and also happening today, the memorial day parade will be taking place from around 2:00 to 5:00 this afternoon. that will start on constitution and seventh, so of course there will be lots of traffic there. so, just make sure to head out early and plan ahead of time there. also, they will be beefing up security in that area as well and people we spoke to yesterday let us know

throughout the morning hours here. as we get into the afternoon we'll have more sunshine start to break out so partly cloudy by the time we get to the afternoon. then this evening clouds return ahead of what could be an on and off stormy day tomorrow. warmer week ahead. we were in the 70's a lot last week. as we head into this week we'll have more 80's around, more of a humid sticky feel. we'll keeping unsettled weather around just about every day this week. thursday looks mostly sunny and dry but that looks like the only day we could totally dry. every other day in the forecast has a chance of storms in it. here's a look at current temperatures. 64 degrees in washington, 66 in manassas as well as quantico, 61 gaithersburg. we have as you just saw in the live shot low hanging fog, drizzle out there this morning locally around d.c. and we will have some more showers trying to work their way through a little later on this morning. spotty in nature but again, at least the chance through 11,

i guess one of the questions happening now is hollywood out t of ideas. the pirates of the caribbean film while it was number one at the box office it came in lower than the other films in the franchise. the film still brought in an estimated school million dollars over the weekend and 208.4 million internationally. now, that's a lot of money clearly but the movie cost around $265 million to make. these films are so bloated in regards to special effects and how much they cost but the franchise is now clearly near $4 billion worldwid at the box office. "guardians of the galaxy vol. 2" took in about 19.8 in second place. doesn't sound like much in regards to super hero film but it's been out since may fifth. the film is crushing it at the box office. $783 million so far. the first film brought in 773 so it's already surpassed the first film and we're not even out of may yet. >> w

billion dollars. now, "baywatch" is the one that everyone is talking about this weekend ball it didn't do well. and i think people were a little bit surprised considering there's a lot of marketing behind this. the rock has been talking about this for a long time. the rock zac effron, you have priyanka chopra a huge star in india also from the show quantico but the film only did about $23 million in its first three days on a budget of 69 million. now, that's not terrible. i mean, it will probably make its money back budget-wise. i think the rock was a little bit upset about it because if you follow the rock on twitter, he was combating people all weekend long about how there's a disconnect between critics and fans and he kept saying. >> that's an age old battle, too. >> right. but here's the thing. i love the rock but i feel like there was at one point he was saying that critics really aren't people. they're not fans, like -- the fans get it but the critics dean. i'm like no, the movie is just not that great
